Let’s cut to the chase, it’s a bit ridiculous to pay tens of 1000’s of dollars to sell your home and pay excessive fees from the sale of your real estate investment.


As a Realtor, I have experienced some quilt and remorse for the amount of fees a seller has paid in fees. Now don’t get me wrong I earned a lot of those commission checks, but I also have felt a bit guilty at times for the amount of work and the hours put in, from the start of the transaction to the closing table.


We REALTORS have a lot of fees ourselves, we paid for a arduous real estate course, paid and passed the exams needed to get licensed. We also take (CE) continuing education classes every year, we pay MLS board and REALTOR fees/dues out the ying-yang. I could go on and on about the cost to keep my REALTOR and Broker associate Licenses, but YOU can to this blog to learn how to SELL your home (house) and save some of your investment from some of the obscene fees accumulated during the transaction.


  1. The days of having a standard  6-10 % commission fee is changing. Sellers do not need REALTORS to sell their homes anymore. We are in a “SELLERS MARKET” and your home will sell with or without a REALTOR. I will say at this point having a realtor is a plus for you in many aspects.


If all you want to do is show up at the closing to get your net investment that’s great, I’d love to help you with that too, but if you want to save on fees, here are a few tips.


  1. Hire a seasoned REALTOR, who knows the Market and negotiate their fees.
  2. List with a local agent who works, lives and plays, in the same city.  All REALTORS will be members of the same MLS, any agent can put a FOR SALE sign in your yard. Although there is a lot more they can do, depending on their skills, and negotiating tactics. REALTORS are all suppose to abide by the Code Of Ethics, so make sure they are a REALTOR member.
  3. The days of assisting a buyer with their closing cost and their lender fees, to purchase YOUR home (house) in a SELLERS MARKET is as ridiculous as it sounds. Helping a buyer with these fees, were introduced during a BUYERS MARKET, when homes were abundant, and sellers were in competition against their neighbor.


Hiring a real estate agent who will assist YOU in selling your home is key to less fees and netting a higher profit.


I know I’m going to catch a lot of heat from other agents who see this post, but I’ll just bid them GOD’S speed in advance, and will continue to keep helping Sellers who allow me to assist them.
